I agree to some extent, but I'm not so sure it was just bad training alone. Sounds like a case of too many rookies assigned to one unit at one time. Whenever you get that kind of situation the more aggressive rookies will dominate and brow-beat the more weak-minded ones, resulting in a lot of over aggressive and dumb police work. Police Academies have long been the dumping ground for cops that don't possess the requisite skill set, mindset, or intestinal fortitude to do the job.
I've been to dozens of in-service classes at various academies over the years. For the most part they are staffed with self-absorbed little professors or political lackeys. One ECC blowhard frequently mentions his Masters Degree in English. You never know when Shakespeare will come in handy during a standoff or violent domestic.
For the suburban PD's, assignment to the academy is a stepping stone up-coming brass who are sucking their way to the top. It means M-F work schedule, no heavy lifting and w/e's off.
The NYSP is the exception, their academy is staffed with some of the best guys in their respective fields or specialties.

There are a lot of big talkers on this blog. There have been many postings about calling someone to investigate the Meegan era spending practices. Bill Cusella has always spoke his mind at the union meetings. He has been a vocal opponent of this union for 20 years. His opposition and argumentative style has done good over the years. WASHINGTON – The congressional and state legislative delegations from the region have their marching orders in two agendas from the Buffalo Niagara Partnership. In the meantime, here are modest proposals, which would not cost much, that the delegations can take up that deal with creation of wealth and jobs:
“Triborough” is code for a bad 1982 law that puts public employee unions in the driver’s seat in all negotiations with local and state governments. It says when contracts expire, all pay and other provisions remain in force, including future step pay raises. This makes contract talks farcical. Because of the leverage this gives public unions, it is the single-biggest reason why New York has the highest state and local taxes in America.
The partnership does urge Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo not to automatically renew codes requiring binding arbitration for public employee unions when it expires next summer. But it appears to pass off the job of jawboning for repeal of Triborough to a related organization, Unshackle Upstate. Unshackle in turn depends on a subsidiary group, Let New York Work. Outright repeal of Triborough is not on that organization’s 2012 short list. Instead, Let New York Work would tinker with it by freezing pay step increases. That’s not enough. This whole distorted law has to go, and it won’t be repealed unless business ardently demands it.
This column does not favor the shredding of all collective bargaining rights for public (or private) employees. However, successful union rollback moves in Wisconsin, where unions lost collective bargaining rights, and Michigan, where the closed union shop was outlawed, ought to encourage Buffalo Niagara business to be a lot bolder in what it asks for.

Police in the southern coastal town of Lewes say the 78-year-old Donaldson was stopped Dec. 1 for a traffic violation. Police say the officer determined Donaldson had been drinking and gave him field sobriety tests.
Donaldson was arrested and later released. An arraignment is set for Friday.

Whoever trained these two Police Officers at Central Police Services should be ousted and made part of any repercussions these two men must endure. I agree to some extent, but I'm not so sure it was just bad training alone. Sounds like a case of too many rookies assigned to one unit at one time. Whenever you get that kind of situation the more aggressive rookies will dominate and brow-beat the more weak-minded ones, resulting in a lot of over aggressive and dumb police work. Police Academies have long been the dumping ground for cops that don't possess the requisite skill set, mindset, or intestinal fortitude to do the job.
I've been to dozens of in-service classes at various academies over the years. For the most part they are staffed with self-absorbed little professors or political lackeys. One ECC blowhard frequently mentions his Masters Degree in English. You never know when Shakespeare will come in handy during a standoff or violent domestic.
For the suburban PD's, assignment to the academy is a stepping stone up-coming brass who are sucking their way to the top. It means M-F work schedule, no heavy lifting and w/e's off.
The NYSP is the exception, their academy is staffed with some of the best guys in their respective fields or specialties.

Our PBA seems to be in shambles at this time. When we have half wits like Obed Casillas screaming and bullying people at the meetings, that means we have lost all hope of obtaining any good for the membership. This current body of PBA delegates have let the main PBA body down by allowing Panis to hold exclusive power over any and all decisions. We have been lied to and deceived for years by this type of person, now we are to believe that it is all behind us, why? Find out what delegates voted against this by-law change (wht bill) and post it here. We will push to have those delegates opposed come election time so that they cant hurt this union body anymore. There are a lot of big talkers on this blog. There have been many postings about calling someone to investigate the Meegan era spending practices. Go ask a judge or lawyer if you have any ground to stand on. You do not! There was nothing illegal about it because there was nothing in the by laws to prevent it. There is where the problem lies; in the by laws. Thankfully one of the honest execs is in charge of making new by laws. Beyond that we need an independent committee to oversee the audit status. Panus should not be able to appoint people to that committee. He was part of the Meegan regime and may be culpable in the outcome of its report.
Electing a union delegate is somewhat like appointing a BPD Chief. Pick the most incompetent person imaginable and give them power and authority over people and money. That is the system we strive for in the Buffalo Police Department.

The CAD system would cost over a million dollars to be reconfigured to allow Housing Area calls to be dispatched to Housing cars. That's the reason Housing cars can't be dispatched housing calls.

Orchard Park Police Chief Andrew D. Benz is retiring in two weeks, after meeting earlier this month with the supervisor, the town’s labor attorney and town attorney.
Benz said he decided about a week ago that Jan. 3 would be his last day, bringing a nearly 25-year career in the police department to a close. Triborough law must be repealed
WASHINGTON – The congressional and state legislative delegations from the region have their marching orders in two agendas from the Buffalo Niagara Partnership. In the meantime, here are modest proposals, which would not cost much, that the delegations can take up that deal with creation of wealth and jobs:
“Triborough” is code for a bad 1982 law that puts public employee unions in the driver’s seat in all negotiations with local and state governments. It says when contracts expire, all pay and other provisions remain in force, including future step pay raises. This makes contract talks farcical. Because of the leverage this gives public unions, it is the single-biggest reason why New York has the highest state and local taxes in America.
The partnership does urge Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo not to automatically renew codes requiring binding arbitration for public employee unions when it expires next summer. But it appears to pass off the job of jawboning for repeal of Triborough to a related organization, Unshackle Upstate. Unshackle in turn depends on a subsidiary group, Let New York Work. Outright repeal of Triborough is not on that organization’s 2012 short list. Instead, Let New York Work would tinker with it by freezing pay step increases. That’s not enough. This whole distorted law has to go, and it won’t be repealed unless business ardently demands it.
This column does not favor the shredding of all collective bargaining rights for public (or private) employees. However, successful union rollback moves in Wisconsin, where unions lost collective bargaining rights, and Michigan, where the closed union shop was outlawed, ought to encourage Buffalo Niagara business to be a lot bolder in what it asks for.

ABC News veteran and former correspondent Sam Donaldson is facing a drunken driving charge in Delaware.
Police in the southern coastal town of Lewes say the 78-year-old Donaldson was stopped Dec. 1 for a traffic violation. Police say the officer determined Donaldson had been drinking and gave him field sobriety tests.
Donaldson was arrested and later released. An arraignment is set for Friday.

To date, we have had seven on duty shooting incidents occur within the city by the city police. Critics may disagree with that statement, but I think all will be seen as justified. The city police certainly have their plates full with the criminal element. With all that has happened this year, has the Police administration given one ounce of help or training for these officers they employ? Has anyone received any additional training at the range? Any additional class room training due to the high number of police shootings? Has the city attempted to train officers with alternative weapons such as tasers or any thing in that line? NO NO NO... nothing, absolutely nothing. Shame on this administration for not picking up the ball and running with it. They should have daily trainings to assist their officers in coping with the violence they are now encountering.

As far as coppers views on this topic are concerned, I can't help but notice it's the guys who have been shot or have had to use their weapons in the line of duty who are the guys who will agree with everything I just said.
