First line of defense - COPS
Like it or not, when you swore to up hold the laws, you joined those others that are unquestionably the first line of defense for the American Public. When the worst possible situations occur, the people of this country call YOU first. With our shrinking numbers and swelling crime rates, each and every one of us are called to a higher standard of service. This overwhelming demand on officers tends to separate the men from the boys. It becomes to obvious of who can handle the job and who is hiding behind a safe routine. Factor in a lazy or stupid Cop, and our numbers on the street become even smaller. This is why the hiring process is so important. Those weak individuals (body or mind), lazy, out of shape, addicted, criminal minded persons have to be weeded out during the hiring process. This is a must for the people of this country, this is the most important issue for Police Departments of today.

Like it or not the bpd is not the best looking dept.We are the heavy hitters (baseball term) when it comes to law enforcement around here.We are being overwhelmed with crime.You can't cut the manpower down and expect crime rates to be lower.Like it or not Buffalo will be the next Detroit.I think for the most part officers are doing an outstanding job.Except when they are checking on there weed factory.Keep up the good work brother & sisters officers.

Victim of morning shooting dies at ECMC

A Buffalo man shot this morning at Carl Street and East Delavan Avenue on the East Side died later in Erie County Medical Center.
Buffalo police have yet to release the name of the man, who is believed to be in his mid 30s.
The shooting occurred about 10:30 a.m. The man apparently was hit by a shotgun blast from a passing vehicle, according to a police spokesman.
Anyone with information is asked to call or text the confidential tipcall line at 847-2255.

When is Mayor Brown and. Casey going to start ignoring the bottom line and start concentrating on the safety of the citizens of Buffalo. It appears that only one or two posts called Kenny dumb or something like that. The few posts on this subject seem to deal with the administrative miscalculation and consequence for Kenny. I dont think anyone is under the impression that Kenny is dumb, on the contrary, I think 99% of people think of him as very bright, able and sociable. His contributions to the BPD are notable and worthy. Kenny has a very good reputation within the department and should be proud of his accomplishments. To the poster that implies he is being maligned here, I believe your mistaken.
Yes to the last post, I agree. It is worth the time to discuss this situation, it is unique in its nature and should be on anyone's radar screen who has prior time with other agencies. This is a situation that will not surface often, but the PBA, city hall and of course the retiring Officer should all be aware that no health care will be extended to you until you work a minimal of 20 yrs on the BPD. I believe in this matter of Ken, it was new territory and unfortunately he has to come back for a time before he is gifted that health care.
Has the media realized that multiple people in Buffalo were shot, some killed within the last two days? It is really war like in some neighborhoods, some being shot in daylight. A push to have the state and county police place a heavy presence within the eastside should be started. Buffalo cant afford or put in place anytime soon more officers. But the State Police and Sheriffs dept can spare officers to work these war torn neighborhoods.
Civil service hiring is based heavily on nepotism. All you have to do is pass the exam (which any borderline retard can do after buying the study guide)and know someone. The rosters of every City, county & suburban PD in WNY are filled with numerous people of the same last name.
Unfortunately, the spawn of legendary officers don't often live up to dad's expectations. They are often entitled pussies or overbearing drunks that feel the dept and the world owes them something because dad had a less-than-stellar reputation many years ago.

Harassment suit settled for $15,000

A former Town of Tonawanda employee who claimed he was subjected to anti-Semitic slurs by a co-worker and then suffered retaliation after complaining to a supervisor has agreed to a $15,000 payment from the town.
The Town Board has approved the settlement for Patrick Raderman, who filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court against the town and its Water Resources Department.
During the 16 months that he worked for the department, Raderman claimed, he was harassed by a co-worker who called him a “Jew crybaby,” among other things, and told him that he should “burn in the oven.” After complaining to a supervisor, Raderman claims he was “blackballed.”
The settlement with the town, though, states: “It is understood and agreed to by the parties that this settlement is a compromise of a doubtful and disputed claim, and the payments are not to be construed as an admission of liability on the part of the defendants or those released.”
The town had denied all liability and allegations.
Though the settlement contains a confidentiality clause, the town provided a copy to The Buffalo News in response to a Freedom of Information Law request.
“The town has no further comment on it,” said Deputy Town Attorney John W. Dorn.
“We’re pleased the matter has been resolved,” said Raderman’s attorney, Lisa A. Poch of Chiacchia & Fleming LLP.
In the lawsuit, Raderman claimed that after he complained, other people were promoted or transferred to full-time status. And when he asked why he was being overlooked, he said he learned that the now-former co-worker who had harassed him allegedly was connected to Councilman Daniel J. Crangle.
When he approached Crangle on two occasions in late 2009, Raderman complained, the councilman told him that he would never work full time for the town.
“I don’t even know this individual,” Crangle said last week. “That statement was never made.”
Raderman was fired a week after his attorney notified town officials that his retaliation claims would be pursued in federal court, the lawsuit states

Dont blame the current outbreak on the cops. The DA's Office will not prosecute unless the criminal signs a full confession backed up with video tape of the crime and DNA left on the scene. That cripple doesnt even know what a DIR report is or what is involved. It has become a completely different job than that cripple knew. Do more with less and do it right every time. That cripple couldnt live up to that standard when he was on once, let alone all day everyday.
Kind of hard on the old guys I think. We just had a stick, a gun, a pocket notebook and some had a plastic flashlight. That was it. You and your partner could handle anything! We didnt have portable radio's, so when you went in a call, the driver of the police car would leave the keys on the floor, in case one of you had to run to the car and call for help. Those were the days.
They gave us portable radios, some of the cops are to fat to run back to the cars, especially the female lts. With more money came more food and that put some real weight on our troops.

The "coppers" of today also carry their "bug" bags to and fro lol. Can you imagine if an old-timer did that back in the day? A board, nightstick and flashlight and maybe a spotlight were the only things we carried back then. We had balls and didn't take a whole lot of shit like the little wimps do today. When we first came on we kept our mouths shut and did what the Lt. told us to do until we were accepted by our peers. We got the desk, so be it we didn't complain. We had an outside detail, we went, no complaining. And if you did complain you were dealt with by the Lt. and you learned fast. No women just men taking care of business and crime was never as bad as it is today.
We understand old man and we thank you for your service to the City. But, the police department today is a more professional entity. In the old days, you guys did a great job with what you were given (no much). Today, modern technology lends itself to police departments across the globe. We now work under the eye of Mobil computers, GPS tracking in our cruisers, uniform state reports for crime reporting and statistics. We are suited with first class uniforms and equipment that you old guys would marvel over. But in your defense, the job is basically the same, they call you respond and take care of the problem. We just do it with more supervision (big brothers literally watching) we do it with the help of City Camera's throughout the city, and we do it ALONE in a police car that would be foreign to you old retired officers of yesterday. We are paid fairly well now and expectations are higher than they were in your day. Unfortunately we face high powered weapons from organized drug gangs and criminals at every turn. but again to your point, the more things change, the more they stay the same. As in your day, the cop on the street does their best to do what they can to slow crime and to assist the citizen in need of Police service. Again, thank you for your service and contribution to this great force we call the Buffalo Police Department!

To the poster who says "blackie" is the problem, your not exactly right. Amongst the 6 officer involved shootings this year in the city, just as many whites were shot as blacks. The two fatal shootings were white. Not to say that the blacks arent a big crime problem in the city, they are. But we as officers have to center our attention on the criminals within the city, regardless of their color. For one to say it is all the blacks fault, is just an ignorant, racist remark. The cities major crime problem is gangs of youths selling drugs on the street. With their little street enterprises comes all the bad that goes with it. In the city, there are a lot of people with no money who are hustling all day for things they need or want, it equals CRIME. In order to fight crime effectively, an officer has to have an opened mind. Centering all attention on one group would be devastating to the people within the city, the other criminals would prey on them relentlessly. God bless all, remember who Jesus died for. The Buffalo news had an article in this mornings paper (9-1-12) about an incident at W. Ferry and Herkimer. It stated reports from citizens on how guns were drawn, citizens were brutalized by police, and just basically the police were running amuck of the poor citizens of that neighborhood. It was a real hit piece on the Buffalo Police Officers that were at that location.
This disservice that the news plays out on the citizens is so morally wrong that they should lose their right to publish. That neighborhood is one of the worst, crime ridden spots within the city. The robberies, thefts and shootings in that area are completely out of control. But, now that the news has spot lighted the heavy handed Police, the Police will stay out of that area. Why would they not? The police are not hurt by abandoning a bad area, the people that live there are. Because of the news reporting nonfactual stories as these just to put undue pressure and light on the police, people will be killed in that neighborhood. As for the police, they will laugh about it and collect overtime for the troubles these criminals cause, but make no mistake about, the police will abandon that area because of the false accusations by the Buffalo News.
The Buffalo news briefly mentioned that the police were there because of a bank robbery near by, nothing else about the criminal was spoke of. The Buffalo news also failed to write about the street robbery on Grant st. that night where a Buffalo State college student was shot while being robbed. They also failed to tell the public about the street robbery in North Buffalo, where a young man was beaten an robbed of his money. And of course they failed to tell anyone that all the criminals committing these crimes were black.

I filed a second front claiming to be a private independent security guard. I claim 20 hrs which is the limit. I hire myself out as a guard to various businesses for a few of 27.00 hourly. The car then sped off before anyone could chase it. Officers started looking for it then saw it speeding down doat. It then made a right onto Leslie where it side swiped a vanflipping it on to it's side. The first two officers there, amerman and odonnell then placed the two car thieves under arrest. Then amerman crawled through the broken back window of the van, cut the 92 year old man from his seatbelt, and attempted to clear his airway, but the guy still wasn't breathing and didn't have a pulse. Meanwhile, odonnell climbed the side of the car, opened a door then kicked out the front windshield so the emts could work on the guy when the got there. But since the old guy was not getting any better he started doing CPR on him in the car while amerman stabilized his head. They worked on him until the guy regained a heartbeat and started breathing again then handed him over to fire.
So this crazy strike force escapade was really an accident with injury where two officers caught the bad guys and brought an old man back to life. In a month were there we're at least three officer involved shots fired/shootings, you would think the city/pba would want to praise an incident were officers saved someone's life, but then they would have to let the truth get in the way of a good story. These guys will be lucky if they get an honorable mention on aback page of the blue line, but all that will probably happen is you guys will continue to talk shit because a few guys like to do their job and it makes you look bad.
University Police are warning students at Buffalo State College to be cautious, following two attacks that happened just hours apart near campus. A student was shot and two women were robbed.
The first incident occurred at Grant Street and Potomac Avenue around 11:20 PM Friday. Buffalo Police received a call saying three young men were jumped by five or possibly six male suspects who punched, kicked, and robbed the victims. One of victims was then shot in the arm.
Then, around 3:50 AM Saturday, two women were mugged and had their purses snatched at Richmond Avenue and Dorchester Road.

Delta district, especially the Grant St and Hertel Ave areas were hard hit by crime this week. The few officers working attempted to keep up with the overflow of 911 calls, but mid stride were overflowed overwhelmingly. As the rash of robberies began, the few officers available became overwhelmed with crime scene duties and arrest. In all the robberies, groups of blackmen picked their weaker, defenseless victims, stomping, shooting, and terrorizing them. This carried on for the last couple of days. Even the suburban departments became upset with Delta district, when they were unable to dump Buffalo warrant arrests our way from their car stops. We just didn't have any officers available for that crap. Poor Mike DeGeorge, the misfits official Police Spokesman had to turn off his phone, the media was looking for answers. Captains and Chiefs dont work nights at Delta so the crime spree will have to take a back seat to vacations, back yard barbecues and of course the Commissioners Kid traveling Hockey team. Arnt you glad you live in Buffalo? I know Im glad I dont. With the current city hall administration, there is no police protection, you are on your own.
The robberies around Buff State can clearly be linked to the lack of basketballs and possibly not getting bookbags.

This was an inside job, and Jackson was the one who planned it, town police said Tuesday in announcing the arrests of four suspects in the case.

West Virginia State Police Officers Shot and killed:
Trooper Eric Workman and Corporal Marshall Bailey were shot and killed after they stopped a vehicle for reckless driving at the commuter parking lot adjacent to I-79, in Clay County, at approximately 8:30 pm.
The troopers determined the subject was intoxicated and placed him under arrest and hancuffed in front of his body. The subject was searched and placed in the back of the patrol car when he was able to reach a concealed 9mm pistol that was not discovered in the search. He shot both troopers inside of the vehicle and took Corporal Bailey's service weapon.
After climbing out of the vehicle he shot a tow truck driver who had been called to the scene to impound his car. The tow truck driver was able to get away from the scene and call for help.
The subject then fled on foot and set up an ambush in a ditch. He later opened fire on officers from multiple agencies who responded to the scene, wounding a Roane County deputy in the arm, hand, and stomach. The responding officers returned fire, killing the subject.
Corporal Bailey succumbed to his wounds at the scene. Trooper Workman was transported to CAMC General Hospital where he remained on life support until succumbing to his wounds two days later.
Trooper Workman had served with the West Virginia State Police for 20 months.

Buffalo Police say a man entered a 7-11 on Niagara Street overnight, demanded money and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The incident happened after 1:30 a.m. in the 2000 block of Niagara Street. The suspect is described by police as a black or Hispanic male, 5’10”, possibly in his late twenties or early thirties. The suspect had black hair and was wearing a red t-shirt and a wooden necklace, and fled the scene on a blue bike.

Ive seen some of the buffalo reserves and some are so nasty looking and old. I saw a old reserve officer that could barely walk and was sloppy as shit. Commish better clean those guys up!!!!

An 18-year-old man is recovering after being shot in the foot early Friday morning.
It happened around 1 a.m. near the intersection of Dash and Macamley in Buffalo.
According to Rural Metro, the teen's injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
